Hallo Family! Sounds like a pretty normal week, except for
the eating at Red Lobster part..I now have a craving for some of the biscuits!
If you could send me some that would be great! Ha! Just kidding! However..you
probably have sent me the Easter package already..but sometimes on Sundays I
crave "Sunday Chocolates" (Reese’s PB cups) and I know that’s
possible so maybe if you could send that, it would be great! Also, Mom, I'm
turning into you! I LOVE peanut butter! I eat it on a piece of toast almost
every day! The only difference is that my bread is probably better than yours!
Also, chocolate is really good! (I’ve been limiting myself) And! I found some
actual sour gummy things here! They are very good! Plus...Sister Lisonbee used
to whistle without even knowing it and it would drive me crazy! Just like when Colten
whistles and you have to tell him to stop! Also, I have the bad foot genes
where I have like 5 cracks in each of my feet! It’s a combination of hard
water, wearing tights all day every day, and walking I-don’t-even-want-to-know-how-far,
every day (Sister missionary life)! Thanks for the recipes! They will help! I
thought it was funny that you sent me how to make hashbrowns and mashed potatoes!
I'm not totally incompetent! I did watch you guys make stuff! Ha! No, but
really, thanks so much! I hope I don't put too much stress on you with
everything that I ask for!
As for my week....
Montag: Last day with Sister Lisonbee! I cried...a lot this
day! But we did play scum for FHE and I beat Elder Silver, (no matter what he
says, I did) so that made me a little more happy!
Dienstag: TRANSFER DAY!! We made our way to Leipzig
Hauptbahnhof (Central Station) at about 8 in the morning and then we sent
Sister Lisonbee on her way to Cottbus. (I didn't cry that time). Then I hung
out with Elder Silver and Elder Gerlach until the Zone Leaders came and then I
just hung out with 4 elders for another little while. It was SO weird! I felt
kind of really weird...I'm going to be SO weird when I get home! Anyway...Sister
Warner and Sister Jensen (they serve in Leipzig) finally came! We sent Sister
Jensen to somewhere up by the ocean (jealous a little bit) then I got to spend
the day with Sister Warner and her new companion Sister Murdock in Leipzig!
Leipzig is huge and I'm so glad I don’t serve there. I would get lost for sure!
Then Sister Egbert came! She is from Nevada, by Reno. She is adopted, and about
1 or 2 inches taller than me. She has brown hair, and big brown eyes (People
here always comment on them because everyone here has blue eyes. I fit in well
with all the 14 year olds here actually!) And dad...I believe she got a 21 on
her ACT (yes, I did slip that into a conversation, you are welcome). She
studied for a year at BYU before she came here. She also trained a Deutscher (German)
that came into the field the same time as me! And guess what that means...? Her
Deutsch is REALLY good! President actually told her in interviews that she was
going to need her good German the next place she serves. So yep! She is put
with me!
Mittwoch: We did our studies. I felt self-conscious about my
German all day. We gave out a Buch Mormon the first person we talked to! David canceled
our appointment because he had Deutsch Schul (school). However...I learned and
spoke more German this day than I have my whole life! 9 bis (to) 9 is kicking
in with me starting now! Speaking Deutsch from 9 in the morning to 9 at night
is kind of a struggle when you CAN’T SAY WHAT YOU WANT! That’s my problem! However,
I’m not going to improve if I don’t change (hence the title of the email)!!
Donerstag: Sister Egbert came from an area where they had 2
or 3 appointments every day! Well...welcome to Halle where we have maybe three
a week! However...nothing changes if nothing changes! We had 3 appointments set
up this day! One with Trang, Frau Hellwig (she wasn’t home) and then with
David. We reviewed the first lesson again because he didn't know who Joseph
Smith was! Also, we dropped off another Book of Mormon to a girl that we talked
to in Peißnitz! And Miracle! We found her house ok.
Freitag: We had district meeting and we got to meet our new
missionaries! We have Elder Harris who has been out for about 7 months I think!
Then Elder Fisher, He's our New-B! My German has come a long way since the MTC!
We then got Sister Egbert anmelded (registered I think) and then we called some
contacts on our phone because I had no idea who they were! We called about 7
and only 5 picked up and we got 4 new appointments! MIRACLE! We called one,
Chanita, she picked up, we introduced ourselves, she remembered us and told us
it was funny we were calling because she was having a really hard time right
now and she was just thinking about it she should pray and come to church! Ah! Ja
klar (Sure)!! We were SO excited! The Lords timing is perfect! We set up an
appointment with her for the next day.
Samstag: We served at the Soup Kitchen...the Nun was
there...honestly out of everyone I have ever talked with, who would’ve thought
the meanest person would be the Nun at the Soup Kitchen! She is the typical German
nun! We may never serve there again. We will see. We then went to Chanitas
house...but she wasn’t there! She called us and said she was drunk last night,
and just woke up and has a hangover so it would be best to meet some other time.
We then did some weekly planning and there was a big soccer tournament here I
guess and they made a huge deal out of it and had a parade with all the players
and police and stuff down our street! So that was cool to watch! The police
here are scary.
Sontag: Church, David forgot to mention to us that he would
be in Hamburg for a boxing tournament that he was in...so he wasn't at church!
We then ate by the Rehn family and Sister Egbert got to be introduced to Klösse
(dumplings)! We also did some tür (door) to tür that day!
Jetzt (now) I’m emailing at an internet laden (shop) because
usually we were at the church for 4 hours because there is only one computer!
Sister Lisonbee thinks the internet ladens are creepy so we never went. They
are ok! But this one doesn't have any way to send pics! :(So I will have to
send some next week!
The Lord is really preparing his people! He's been preparing
them for all their lives! I know I’m here in Halle for a reason! It may be just
to plant some seeds! But if that’s the only reason, then it’s worth it! Thanks
for all your prayers and support! I love you so much! Keep doing what you are
supposed to in order to invite and keep the spirit with you and in your homes!
I know that when you do, you will have a happiness, and not just any happiness,
but pure eternal happiness!
Alle Liebe (all love),
Sister St. John
